Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has had her interim bail extended until February 7 by the Islamabad District Sessions Court. The bail is related to a case filed at the Ramna police station.
During the hearing, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Ansar Kiani, requested an exemption from her personal appearance in court. Prosecutor Chaudhry Zahid Asif opposed the request, stating that she had not yet been interrogated in jail and suggested canceling her interim bail.
Bushra Bibi faces several legal charges, including a £190 million corruption case. Her lawyer stressed that she is actively defending herself and requested that any necessary interrogations be carried out while she remains in custody.
Bushra Bibi was arrested following her conviction in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case and was placed in Adiala Jail with her husband, Imran Khan. An accountability court sentenced both to prison terms.
Imran Khan received a 14-year sentence, while Bushra Bibi was sentenced to seven years. The court also imposed fines of Rs1 million on Imran Khan and Rs500,000 on Bushra Bibi. Failure to pay these fines will result in additional jail terms of six months and three months, respectively.
