The national selection committee has not yet scheduled a date to announce Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held from February 19 to March 9 in the country.
Sources have informed Dawn that the selectors are awaiting a fitness report for dynamic opener Saim Ayub, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury in London, and are also considering various team combinations.
“There is no set date for the announcement of the Champions Trophy squad, and there is no rush as the deadline for submitting the team is February 11,” said a PCB official. They also mentioned that the selectors are currently focused on Pakistan’s ongoing Test series against the West Indies in Multan, and the squad is likely to be announced after the conclusion of the second Test.
“A clearer picture regarding Saim’s injury will emerge by then, allowing the selectors to make an informed decision,” the official added.
