The federal cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved the second phase of rightsizing for various institutions.
Key decisions include limiting institutional services to a maximum of three years and launching third-party audits through reputable consultants appointed via the Public-Private Partnership Authority.
The cabinet also approved several amendments related to the upgrading and merging of institutions. The rightsizing committee will work closely with third-party consultants to finalize the Terms of Reference (TORs).
The Pakistan Industrial Technical Assistance Center (PITAC) has been instructed to focus on achieving self-sufficiency, with its progress to be reviewed in a year. A sub-committee will oversee the implementation of these initiatives.
Previously, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the rightsizing of five key ministries—Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, SAFRON, Industries and Production, IT and Telecom, and Health—with the Prime Minister set to make final decisions. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to minimizing the financial burden on lower-income groups.
