Supreme Court considering to issue guidelines for Judges

The Supreme Court is considering issuing guidelines for superior court judges facing interference during their duties. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah emphasized the need for a code of conduct, supported by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Athar Minallah. Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa has not commented on this but focused on addressing issues with IHC judges. He suggested that the IHC judges could have pursued contempt notices against interference. Despite former CJP Tassaduq Hussain Jillani questioning the legality of the inquiry commission, CJP Isa hinted that social media pressure influenced his decision. Attorney General Mansoor Awan remained confident during the hearing. CJP Isa’s preparedness and support from other judges indicate a tough stance. The government seems relieved to deal with a cooperative chief justice. CJP Isa’s emphasis on the SCBA’s role has upset the Professional Lawyers Group. Justice Shah’s proposal for guidelines and a reporting mechanism is supported. Former AAG Waqar Rana believes the Supreme Court must protect judicial independence. Advocate Tariq Bashir highlighted uncertainty about the next steps, suggesting that a commission may proceed only with consent from all parties.
