Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed her loss of faith in the legal system during a court hearing on Tuesday. The hearing was related to the Rangers accident case, which concerns the tragic deaths of four Rangers personnel in a hit-and-run incident on Srinagar Highway, allegedly linked to PTI’s November 26 protests.
Appearing before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad, Bushra Bibi made her remarks in response to the proceedings, which are part of a broader case involving Imran Khan and several other PTI leaders, including Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayub Khan, and Zulfi Bukhari. The incident, which occurred during the PTI protests, has sparked conflicting claims between the government and the party. The court had earlier directed the police to present the suspects by December 26.
Bushra stated, “After what happened to Imran Khan and me, my faith in the law has been lost,” addressing Judge Tahir Abbas Supra. The FIR in the case includes serious charges under the Pakistan Penal Code, including murder, attempt to murder, and terrorism. The document also includes allegations that Imran Khan directed party leaders to take extreme measures, including violence, to secure his release from jail.
During the hearing, Judge Supra granted Bushra interim bail, acknowledging that while the legal process had been time-consuming, it had been followed. Bushra, however, emphasized her disillusionment, stating, “Our trust in the courts has been lost.” In response, Judge Supra assured her that the justice system was still functioning, noting that if it were to collapse, society itself would suffer.
Bushra further criticized the judicial system, claiming that during trials, she had witnessed judges becoming ill and expressing discomfort. She also expressed her belief that there was law in Pakistan, but no justice. After the hearing, Bushra left for Adiala Jail, where she is currently held, as the proceedings concluded.
This exchange reflects growing tensions over the legal challenges faced by PTI leadership and their increasing disillusionment with the judicial process amid ongoing political unrest.
