President Asif Ali Zardari, on Monday, urged for the prompt finalization of the Transit Trade Agreement with Turkmenistan to bolster bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
In a meeting with Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov of Turkmenistan at Aiwan-i-Sadr, the president emphasized that signing the agreement would facilitate trade expansion, regional connectivity promotion, and economic activity enhancement.
Both sides expressed a shared commitment to expediting the completion of the TAPI Gas Pipeline, underscoring its significance in supporting Pakistan’s economy and addressing its energy requirements.
Welcoming the ambassador, President Zardari underscored Pakistan’s deep-rooted and significant bilateral relations with Turkmenistan, citing historical, religious, and cultural ties. He expressed keenness to elevate high-level exchanges to invigorate bilateral ties and enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.
Highlighting the existing trade volume between the two countries, the president emphasized the need for further attention to mutually beneficial outcomes.
President Zardari reminisced about his visit to Turkmenistan during his first presidential term in 2010, where he participated in the TAPI Summit and the fourth International Nauroz Festival in 2013.
The Turkmen Ambassador conveyed warm regards from President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and former President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to President Zardari on his re-election. He emphasized that the trade agreement would not only benefit the two countries but also spur transit trade activities in the region.
President Zardari reciprocated the warm wishes and expressed gratitude for the felicitations from Turkmenistan’s leadership.
