PM Shehbaz Sharif directs expedited resolution of pending tax cases

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the swift resolution of pending tax cases, highlighting the need to address legal disputes that impede revenue collection.

During a review meeting on Inland Revenue Appellate Tribunals in Islamabad on Friday, the Prime Minister instructed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to expedite the resolution of tax cases, stressing that delays would not be tolerated.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of recruiting highly qualified personnel for the tribunals, offering competitive salaries and benefits to attract top talent. He noted that the timely settlement of tax cases is essential for enhancing the country’s revenue system.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, the Prime Minister mentioned the recent introduction of the Faceless Customs Assessment System in Karachi, which has significantly reduced corruption and processing times for customs clearance.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting national resources, Shehbaz Sharif stated that efforts would focus on recovering taxes from evaders rather than placing additional burdens on low-income citizens.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of reforms in Inland Revenue Appellate Tribunals, with the Prime Minister instructing officials to ensure timely completion of these reforms.
