LHC directs Multan to become a ‘Green City’ in effort to tackle pollution

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has instructed authorities to initiate efforts to transform Multan into a “Green City” to address the rising pollution levels.

In a detailed ruling issued by Justice Jawad Hassan following a petition by Tahir Jamal, the court stressed the importance of implementing a comprehensive framework and a long-term policy to improve the city’s deteriorating air quality. It also recommended appointing spokespersons across departments and consulting with relevant stakeholders.

The court ordered departments to submit monthly progress reports, noting that current measures to combat pollution were insufficient. The recent plantation initiatives, including 14,825 trees planted by the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Multan and 10,560 trees by the Multan Development Authority, were also mentioned.

The case will be reviewed on the first Tuesday of every month.
