The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is set to review 46 nominations for the appointment of additional judges to the Sindh High Court (SHC) during its meeting on January 23.
A letter from the commission’s secretariat has requested JCP members to submit the curriculum vitae and necessary documents of the nominees via email. Members whose nominations are missing or incorrectly excluded are asked to notify the secretariat within two days of receiving the letter.
On December 24, the JCP called for nominations to fill 38 vacancies in various high courts, including 12 for the SHC, four for the Islamabad High Court, 10 for the Lahore High Court, nine for the Peshawar High Court, and three for the Balochistan High Court.
The nominations were sought shortly after the JCP approved new rules for the appointment of judges to the superior judiciary.
The list of nominees includes both senior advocates and district and sessions judges (DSJs) such as Ali Haider Ada, Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, Riazat Ali Sahar, and many others.
On December 21, the JCP also approved the proposed JCP (Appointment of Judges) Rules 2024 with some amendments. Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, who chairs the JCP, led two consecutive sessions during which the rules were approved.
