Double-decker buses to launch on Karachi’s Shahrah e Faisal

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the provincial government plans to introduce double-decker buses this year.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industries (KATI) on Thursday, he confirmed efforts to launch the double-decker buses on Sharea Faisal within the same timeframe.

The minister highlighted the achievements of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government in improving law and order, transport, healthcare, and other civic services in Karachi and across Sindh.

He mentioned that a KATI representative would be invited to the Bus Rapid Transit Yellow Line project board meeting. He also stated that the Jam Sadiq Bridge construction is expected to be completed within eight months.

Minister Memon emphasized the PPP’s commitment to supporting industrialists and fostering economic growth. He clarified that delays in the Red Line project were due to utility transfers, not government inefficiency.

Addressing law and order, he remarked that Karachi’s security situation is much improved and favorable for investment, with street crime rates better than many global cities.

He acknowledged Karachi’s water shortage and outlined efforts to address it through the K-IV and Hub Canal projects. He also highlighted the allocation of substantial funds to the Solid Waste Management Board for enhanced garbage collection, with efforts already underway in cities like Hyderabad and Larkana.

The minister pledged strict measures to improve the traffic system.

On economic initiatives, he assured industrialists and traders of the government’s dedication to overcoming challenges. He emphasized the PPP leadership’s commitment to providing maximum facilities to the business community, encouraging economic growth and job creation.

He promoted the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone, offering zero import duties, a 10-year tax exemption, and strategic benefits due to its connection to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), presenting a lucrative opportunity for traders and industrialists.

KATI President Junaid Naqi raised concerns about heavy traffic and related accidents, urging strict enforcement of traffic laws and the implementation of effective strategies to tackle congestion.

He noted the growth of the Korangi Industrial Area, now covering 12,500 acres and significantly contributing to exports, particularly in leather. The area also plays a vital role in refining oil, petrol, and diesel and provides employment to approximately 1.5 million people.

Earlier, KATI leaders SM Tanveer, Junaid Naqi, Syed Johar Ali Kandahari, and others discussed their concerns with Minister Memon in a meeting.
