Inflation declines for sixth week in Pakistan

Pakistan’s inflation fell for the sixth week in a row, helping suffering people. The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), which tracks essential item prices, declined 0.21% in the week ending February 6, 2025. This drop is mostly due to falling tomato, potato, onion, and poultry prices. These adjustments indicate a decrease in inflation.

Key foods had the biggest price cuts. Tomatoes fell 11%, followed by potatoes (6%), onions (4%), poultry (4%), and pulse gramme (2%). The SPI rose 1.2% year-over-year, its lowest level in over seven years.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said this drop was not confined to food. Energy prices fell 1%, including LPG. Still, certain commodities witnessed slight price increases. Diesel, sugar, and petrol rose slightly after bananas rose 3.25%.

The 51 items tracked had 31% price drops, 25% price increases, and 43% price stability. The balance of declining and constant prices has comforted many, especially during economic hardship.

This persistent inflation drop may enhance consumer confidence and relieve low- and middle-income households’ burdens. The incremental progress gives Pakistan’s economy and people hope, despite hurdles. To ensure economic stability, the government will regularly monitor these patterns.
