Bilal Maqsood, formerly of Strings, has taken a surprise and heartwarming turn in his career. He switched from love lyrics and nostalgic melodies to puppetry with his successful kids’ performance, Pakkay Dost.
Bilal describes his move as from love songs to a higher purpose. Bilal and his band shaped a generation with tunes like Mera Bichraa Yaar. His concentration is now on entertaining and educating children, and he’s thrilled. “This makes me really happy,” he remarked, describing how meeting youngsters and parents who love Pakkay Dost has fulfilled him.
In September 2023, Pakkay Dost debuted six vibrant puppet figures. These characters include smart problem-solver Miraal, foolish but endearing pal Mateen, and green character Bajjo, inspired by Bilal’s aunt. The show has light-hearted, relatable humour like family dinner chats. Its equal treatment of children, appealing to their curiosity without preaching, makes it distinctive.
Bilal wants to make Sesame Street Pakistani while including its educational and entertaining nature. He wanted to make high-quality Urdu content for 3-7-year-olds with Pakkay Dost. Fans are throwing Pakkay Dost-themed birthday parties and impatiently awaiting new episodes.
The project also prioritised inclusivity. Bilal added Pakistan Sign Language to the event, utilising ConnectHear to make it accessible to hearing-impaired children. He wants season three to have conflict, closure, and profound themes to make every episode more impactful.
Young fans might expect surprises from Pakkay Dost. Next season will have a celebrity visitor and stories with crucial lessons. Bilal says, “I think I’ve found my life’s purpose now,” expressing his love of puppetry. I want every child to have a good childhood.”
By entering this new chapter, Bilal Maqsood has redefined his profession and inspired the next generation, proving that creativity is limitless.
