Pakistan’s rising star, Sohail Adnan, made history on Monday by defeating Egypt’s Moez Tamer Elmoghazy in the Under-13 final of the British Junior Open Squash in Birmingham.
In a thrilling final at the University of Birmingham glass court, Sohail mounted a remarkable comeback, overcoming Elmoghazy 11-5, 5-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-5.
This victory ended an 18-year dry spell for Pakistan in the British Junior Open, with Nasir Iqbal being the last Pakistani to win the title back in 2007.
At just 12 years old, Sohail navigated a tough draw, competing against top players from around the world. His final match demonstrated not only his technical prowess but also his mental strength as he came from behind in the third game to secure his historic win.
Earlier, Sohail defeated Malaysia’s Wain Isaac Wilson 11-4, 11-7, 11-5 in the pre-quarterfinals and triumphed over Germany’s Mats Oliver Efken and Scotland’s Calum Smith, both with 3-0 victories.
