An accountability court on Tuesday formally charged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi in connection with an alleged corruption case involving development projects.
Accountability Judge Zubair Shehzad Kayani read out the charges against Elahi, who denied the accusations and signed the chargesheet during the hearing. The court has scheduled the next session for witness testimonies.
Earlier, the judge granted Elahi a one-day exemption from court attendance following a petition requesting relief. The court had previously framed charges against other individuals involved in the case, including Muhammad Khan Bhatti, Khalid Mahmood Chhatta, Asif Mahmood, Naeem Iqbal, Muhammad Asghar, and Asad Ali.
Elahi and the others are accused of embezzling funds in various development projects during Elahi’s time as Punjab’s chief minister. The next hearing will focus on witness statements.
