An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants previously issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The Rawalpindi ATC overturned the warrants in connection with a case filed at Hassan Abdal Police Station.
Gandapur’s lawyer, Muhammad Faisal Malik, requested the suspension, arguing that the Peshawar High Court had already granted bail to Gandapur in all related cases. The lawyer presented the Peshawar High Court’s order to the ATC, which then suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants.
The court also annulled proceedings to declare the chief minister a proclaimed offender.
Last month, an ATC in Rawalpindi had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for KP CM Gandapur and other PTI leaders in relation to an attack on the army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) during the May 9 violent protests of last year.
The May 9 riots erupted across the country following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan in the £190 million settlement case. Hundreds of PTI workers and senior leaders were arrested for their involvement in the violence and attacks on military installations.
During the protests, miscreants targeted civil and military facilities, including the Jinnah House and GHQ in Rawalpindi. The military labeled May 9 as a “Black Day” and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act.
