Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa today to discuss the recent revelations made by six Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges regarding alleged interference by intelligence agencies in judicial matters. The meeting, which will also include Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Awan, comes after the SC held a full-court meeting to discuss the contents of the judges’ letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). In the letter, the judges accused intelligence agencies of using coercive tactics to influence court proceedings. The PM is expected to request CJ Isa to conduct an inquiry into these allegations. The move has raised concerns among some legal experts, who believe that the PM should have requested an inquiry commission instead of holding a meeting. They argue that the meeting could send the wrong message to other superior court judges who are also facing interference in their affairs. The Islamabad High Court Bar Association is planning to hold a convention in support of the six IHC judges.
