The Peshawar High Court directed the speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to administer the oath of office to opposition members elected to reserved seats for women and non-Muslims, allowing them to participate in the Senate elections on April 2. This decision followed the acceptance of petitions filed by around 20 opposition MPAs. The court ordered the speaker to prioritize this matter during the upcoming session and facilitate the MPs in casting their votes. The petitioners, representing various political parties, had challenged the failure of the speaker and deputy speaker to convene the assembly for their oath-taking. The controversy arose after the assembly’s session was not held despite the governor’s summons. Legal representatives appeared for both the petitioners and the authorities involved in the case.
