Six IHC judges call for action from SJC against interference by spy agency

In an unprecedented move, six judges from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) have reached out to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) concerning alleged executive and intelligence agency interference in judicial matters. The judges, including Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, have urged the SJC to clarify guidelines for judges facing such interference, emphasizing the importance of protecting judicial independence. This action follows a recent Supreme Court ruling regarding the status of former IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, which highlighted concerns about the SJC’s approach to cases involving allegations of interference. The judges have called for an investigation into ongoing executive branch policies and intelligence agency interference, stressing the need for clear guidelines on reporting incidents of intimidation or interference. They have also emphasized the importance of protecting the judiciary from external influence and ensuring judicial independence.
