Bushra Bibi Secures Interim Bail in November 26 Protest Cases

An Islamabad district and sessions court on Thursday granted interim bail to Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, in connection with cases stemming from last month’s violent protests by the party. The court’s decision came after Judge Shabbir Bhatti heard her bail applications, granting her relief until January 13 upon submission of surety bonds worth Rs50,000.

The protests in question were triggered by Imran Khan’s “final call” on November 13 for nationwide demonstrations scheduled for November 24. His demands included restoring PTI’s electoral mandate, releasing detained party workers, and revoking the 26th Amendment, which he claimed had bolstered a “dictatorial regime.”

The demonstrations escalated into violent clashes between security forces and PTI supporters across Islamabad. The unrest continued into the early hours of November 27, with six lives lost over three days, including a policeman and three Rangers officials. Conflicting narratives regarding deaths allegedly caused by law enforcement actions have fueled disputes between the government and PTI.

On December 2, an Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and 93 others in cases tied to the protests. Additionally, Bushra faced accusations following the filing of a murder case against PTI leaders after a Rangers official succumbed to injuries sustained during the unrest.

Bushra Bibi’s appearance in court on Thursday, accompanied by her legal team, marked a key moment in the ongoing legal proceedings. The charges against her include one case registered at the Tarnol police station and three at the Ramna police station.
