Negotiations between PTI and the Government begin as committees convene at Parliament House

The first meeting between government and opposition PTI committees took place on Monday, marking the start of crucial negotiations aimed at easing the current political tensions. This meeting follows a series of developments in the political landscape, starting with PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s announcement earlier this month about his party’s willingness to engage in talks with “anyone.”

In response, on the recommendation of National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formed a committee from the ruling coalition to participate in these talks. The inaugural in-camera meeting, chaired by Sadiq, was held to discuss the framework for future negotiations.

Sadiq stated that the next meeting is scheduled for January 2, where the opposition PTI is expected to present their “charter of demands.” This initial gathering is seen as a significant step towards resolving the political impasse, with both sides preparing to address key issues that have strained relations between them. The committee discussions are viewed as an essential effort to foster dialogue and reduce the political discord that has dominated the country’s landscape in recent months.
