The commissioner-general of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, accused Israel of violating the rules of war in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the severity of the situation in the region during the past 14 months of conflict.
In a post on his X account, Lazzarini highlighted the escalation in violence over the past 24 hours, which has resulted in more civilian casualties. “Attacks on schools and hospitals have become routine,” he said. “The world must not become desensitized. All wars have rules, and every one of those rules has been broken.”
Lazzarini called for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza, stressing the urgent need to halt attacks and protect civilians.
Since launching its offensive on Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel’s actions have resulted in over 45,200 deaths, the majority being women and children. The International Criminal Court (ICC) recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
