Trump claims Putin seeks a meeting to address the Ukraine war

Former U.S. President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed an interest in meeting him to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine. Speaking at a rally in Arizona, Trump stated, “President Putin said that he wants to meet with me as soon as possible. We need to wait, but that war must end. It’s horrible, absolutely horrible.”

Throughout his campaign for a second term in office, Trump has emphasized his commitment to resolving the Ukraine conflict swiftly, promising to end the war within 24 hours if elected. Addressing the human cost of the conflict, he remarked, “The number of soldiers being killed is staggering. It’s a flat battlefield with bullets flying, and the only thing stopping them is human bodies. This has to stop.”

Trump is scheduled to return to the White House in January and has made the Ukraine war a focal point of his foreign policy platform. Earlier this month, he held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris, where French President Emmanuel Macron also participated in the discussions.

The meeting underscored Trump’s interest in mediating the conflict, which has caused immense devastation and loss of life. Trump’s statements suggest that he intends to leverage diplomatic engagement to achieve a swift resolution, signaling potential talks with both Russian and Ukrainian leaders.

As anticipation builds for his return to the presidency, Trump’s comments have sparked widespread debate over how his administration might influence the trajectory of the Ukraine conflict.
