Meeting between Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, H.E. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo today.

The meeting, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, underscored the strong fraternal ties and goodwill between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister highlighted the historical, religious, and cultural connections between the two nations. He emphasized Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, people-to-people relations, and cultural exchanges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the importance of joint efforts to explore new opportunities for economic collaboration, particularly in sectors like chemicals, cement clinkers, surgical goods, leather products, and information technology.

He also expressed his appreciation to Bangladesh for recent steps taken to facilitate trade and travel between the two countries. These include the removal of the 100% physical inspection requirement for consignments from Pakistan and the abolition of a special security desk at Dhaka airport previously used to scrutinize Pakistani passengers. Additionally, he thanked Bangladesh for easing the visa process for Pakistani applicants by removing the extra clearance requirements.
