Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Indonesian President H.E. Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of the D-8 Summit in Cairo.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif congratulated President Subianto on his election and discussed a range of mutual interests, including political, trade, and economic cooperation, as well as collaboration in multilateral forums.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of regular high-level interactions to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in enhancing economic and commercial ties. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted Indonesia’s role as a reliable trade partner for Pakistan, particularly in supplying palm oil to meet the country’s vegetable oil needs.
Prime Minister Sharif also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to deepening engagement with ASEAN and acknowledged Indonesia’s support for Pakistan’s Sectoral Partner Status in ASEAN and its aspiration for Full Dialogue Partner status.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to President Subianto to visit Pakistan, which the Indonesian President graciously accepted.
Both leaders expressed their strong support for the Palestinian cause, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and advocating for a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
