National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed his willingness to facilitate talks between the government and opposition, particularly the PTI, stating that his “office and residence are open 24 hours a day.”
This statement followed remarks by senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah, who had called the NA speaker’s office a “neutral venue” for political discussions. Sadiq invited PTI MNA Sher Afzal Marwat to initiate formal talks with the government, emphasizing the importance of dialogue to address the country’s pressing issues, including law and order, climate concerns, and provincial autonomy.
Sadiq assured that both the Speaker’s office and residence are available for these conversations, stressing that he would continue to provide a platform for both government and opposition members until his tenure ends. He reaffirmed that the Speaker’s office is “for everyone” and always open to parliamentarians, regardless of whether there is a formal meeting scheduled.
The call for dialogue comes amid ongoing tensions between the PTI and the government, with the opposition party having staged multiple protests since the imprisonment of their leader, Imran Khan. Despite the growing animosity, recent remarks from both PML-N and PTI members suggested a willingness to engage in talks, though neither side has yet taken the first step.
