PM orders action against human trafficking and illegal migration networks

The Prime Minister has directed strong action against individuals involved in human trafficking and those deceiving innocent Pakistanis into using illegal means to migrate abroad. He has also requested a comprehensive report on all incidents from the past year where Pakistanis were implicated in such activities worldwide.

Expressing frustration over the slow response to addressing human trafficking after the 2023 boat tragedy, the Prime Minister called for immediate action. He instructed that those responsible for the delays in tackling the issue be held accountable.

In a meeting convened to discuss the drowning incident of 262 Pakistanis in Greece, the Prime Minister emphasized that human trafficking damages Pakistan’s international reputation and stressed the importance of decisive measures to curb the problem.

The Prime Minister raised concerns over the recurring nature of such incidents, attributing them to past inaction, and called for urgent reflection on the issue. He also ordered the immediate implementation of the Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) to monitor and prevent illegal migration.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed that 174 cases had been brought to court, with 4 resulting in convictions. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress in prosecuting those involved in human trafficking.

The Prime Minister also sought details on the public awareness campaign aimed at educating citizens about the dangers of illegal migration. He instructed the FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide a report on all incidents involving Pakistanis in the past year.

Additionally, he urged greater collaboration with international organizations to prevent future occurrences. The meeting was attended by key federal ministers and senior officials.
