Lahore to Get First Smog-Cleaning Tower to Combat Air Pollution

Lahore is preparing to unveil its first smog-cleaning tower, a groundbreaking initiative to address the city’s worsening air pollution crisis. The project, spearheaded by the Environmental Protection Department, represents a significant stride in the fight against smog and its detrimental effects on public health.

The tower is being installed in the Mahmood Booti area, a location notorious for its high pollution levels. Currently undergoing installation and calibration, the tower is expected to be fully operational by December 21. Equipped with cutting-edge filtration technology, the structure is designed to remove harmful pollutants and particulate matter from the air, significantly improving air quality for the city’s residents.

Senior provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb lauded the project as a transformative step towards safeguarding the environment. She emphasized the importance of utilizing modern technology to tackle pressing issues like smog, which has become a persistent challenge for Lahore during the winter months. “This tower is not just a solution for Lahore but a model for the entire nation,” she stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing environmental issues with innovative approaches.

Experts believe that the tower could serve as a benchmark for other cities grappling with similar air quality problems. By implementing such projects, the government aims to create healthier living conditions and reinforce its dedication to combating environmental challenges.

This initiative marks a vital step in Lahore’s journey toward cleaner air, setting a precedent for sustainable solutions to urban pollution across Pakistan.
