Attaullah Tarar, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, currently visiting Turkey, toured the headquarters of Turkish state TV channel TRT World and met with Omer Faruk Tanriverdi, the channel’s Director General of International Broadcast. During their meeting, they discussed enhancing media cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey, focusing on joint documentary production, tourism promotion, and other areas of mutual interest.
Minister Tarar highlighted the strong historical, religious, and cultural ties between Pakistan and Turkey. He pointed out that agreements to co-produce dramas and documentaries with the Turkish government align with Pakistan’s strategic goals, noting the rich talent in both countries.
Tarar also mentioned the achievement of Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem, who set a world record in javelin throw at the Summer Olympics with a distance of 92.97 meters, proposing the idea of producing a documentary about Nadeem’s inspiring journey.
The conversation also included a discussion about the Shandur Polo Festival in Pakistan, with the Information Minister emphasizing its importance in promoting tourism, culture, and sports. He proposed creating a documentary on the festival in partnership with PTV World, which could be broadcast internationally.
The Minister also suggested the possibility of co-broadcasting, with TRT World’s programming airing on Pakistan Television. Tarar pointed out that the strong cultural and religious ties between Pakistan and Turkey have contributed to the popularity of Turkish dramas and documentaries in Pakistan.
Additionally, the two sides addressed the ongoing conflict in Jammu and Kashmir, with the Information Minister stressing the need for a digital documentary to raise awareness of the human rights violations taking place in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.
