Rana Sanaullah, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, stated on Friday that the government is open to negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) if the party extends an offer.
He mentioned during an interview with a private news channel, “If PTI reaches out for talks, we will not refuse.”
Sanaullah acknowledged that while PTI has formed a committee for discussions, no formal request for negotiations has been received yet. However, he questioned the necessity of such talks, asking, “Why should we negotiate with you?”
He revealed that before PTI’s call for a sit-in protest, attempts were made to contact the party, but no offer was made regarding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He also held PTI responsible for the unrest on May 9, urging the party to issue a genuine apology.
Regarding madrassa registration, Sanaullah emphasized that the issue could be resolved through dialogue, as there is no deadlock, and whether madrassas are registered under the Society Act or the Ministry of Education, it would not make a significant difference.
Addressing Imran Khan’s imprisonment, he clarified that the judiciary, not the government, is handling the cases, and decisions will be based on evidence.
Sanaullah also reiterated that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership had previously extended multiple invitations for dialogue to PTI, but they were consistently rejected. He emphasized that dialogue remains the best way to resolve political issues.
