SC authorizes military courts to deliver verdicts for 85 accused

In a significant ruling on Friday, the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench authorized military courts to deliver verdicts for 85 accused individuals currently in custody.

The bench, led by Justice Aminuddin Khan, issued a ruling stating that these decisions would be contingent on the outcome of pending cases in the Supreme Court. The brief order also directed that individuals eligible for leniency should be released, while those not eligible for acquittal must be transferred to regular jails to serve their sentences.

This decision comes amid ongoing debates regarding the trial of civilians in military courts, marking an important moment in the ongoing discussion about the balance of military and civilian judicial authority in Pakistan.
