Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited Huawei Technologies in Shanghai’s Longgang District on the fourth day of her official trip to China, receiving a warm reception from the company.
During her visit, it was agreed that Huawei would collaborate on developing Lahore as Pakistan’s first modern smart city. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif invited Huawei to invest in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, and offered support for setting up an office in Nawaz Sharif IT City.
She assured Huawei of full assistance in establishing an assembly and manufacturing plant in Punjab and proposed the creation of Huawei retail offices and after-sales service centers throughout the province.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also met with Mr. Wang Chengdong, President of Huawei Government Affairs, where they discussed strategies to transform Lahore into a digital city. She extended an invitation for Mr. Wang Chengdong to visit Lahore.
The discussions also focused on the digitization of various sectors, including e-commerce, health, and education. Mr. Wang briefed the Chief Minister and her delegation on Huawei’s ongoing projects in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab.
The Chief Minister expressed interest in Huawei’s work in the health and education sectors and highlighted the Safe City project in several Punjab cities. She stated that Huawei’s collaboration would help achieve the vision of a Digital Punjab.
“We aim to benefit from Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications, electronics, and digitization,” said Maryam Nawaz Sharif, stressing the importance of leveraging Huawei’s knowledge for Punjab’s first AI university.
She also encouraged Huawei’s involvement in capacity building and IT research at Nawaz Sharif IT City, aiming to introduce Punjab’s youth to cutting-edge digital technologies with Huawei’s support.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif noted that Huawei’s partnership had been instrumental in the establishment of Lahore’s first Safe City project and called for further collaboration to develop the ecosystem.
During her visit, the Chief Minister toured various Huawei departments and the factory, exploring opportunities for future collaborations.
