The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to restructure its operations in Punjab, the country’s largest province and a key stronghold. Hammad Azhar, PTI Central Punjab General Secretary and Acting Punjab President, revealed the decision, stating that interim office-bearers had been managing party duties following the departure of former office-bearers elected to the assemblies. Azhar assured the appointment of permanent office-bearers in all Punjab districts soon.
Last week, Azhar resigned from his positions, citing legal challenges impeding his duties. He detailed pressures such as legal cases, a ban from electronic media, and safety concerns for his family, prompting him to relocate them abroad. Despite these challenges, Azhar continued to work for the party since May 2023. PTI declined his resignation, with Chairman Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan, following instructions from party founder Imran Khan, praising Azhar’s dedication and bravery.
