Meta’s platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, faced a major outage, affecting millions of users worldwide, including those in Pakistan.
The disruption began around 10:58 PM, with WhatsApp users unable to send or receive messages, Facebook users experiencing difficulties logging in and posting, and Instagram users unable to access or update content.
DownDetector, a platform tracking service interruptions, initially recorded nearly a thousand complaints, which quickly surged to over 300,000 as the outage continued. Frustrated users turned to alternative platforms like Twitter to voice their concerns.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” Meta’s status page confirmed the outage also impacted the WhatsApp Business API.
With over 3.19 billion daily active users across its platforms, Meta has yet to reveal the cause of the outage but assured users that efforts to restore services were underway. For live updates, users can visit Meta’s official support page or DownDetector, which offers real-time outage information by platform and region.
