The Ministry of Information Technology has issued a notification reinstating the powers of the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing. This move follows the repeal of the laws governing the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency.
As per the notification reported by Dunya News, the agency’s framework was found to be incomplete, leading to the transfer of its authority back to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing. The agency’s legal framework will be restored once its structure is fully developed.
With its powers reinstated, the FIA Cyber Crime Wing is now authorized to address cyber crimes, particularly those on social media platforms.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, established in 2023, was initially created to focus on social media-related offenses.
