Pillion Riding and Public Gatherings Banned in Select Karachi Areas

In response to security concerns, the Karachi administration has imposed a ban on pillion riding in the city’s South and Central districts. This move, announced through an official notification issued on December 10, aims to address potential security threats in these areas.

The ban, effective for the next two days, also prohibits public gatherings, rallies, and processions in District South, as authorities work to maintain public order. Along with the restriction on pillion riding, gatherings of more than five people are not permitted in the affected areas. These measures are part of a broader strategy to prevent disturbances and ensure the safety of residents in light of security risks posed by certain miscreants operating in the region.

The decision follows a similar action taken on December 9 in Karachi’s Central District, where Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was invoked. This legal measure not only restricts pillion riding but also prohibits the carrying of arms and other activities that could jeopardize public safety.

The Karachi Police have already begun enforcing these new regulations. On Monday, they arrested 15 individuals for violating the pillion riding ban. Authorities have made it clear that further violations will result in strict action.

These steps reflect the city’s ongoing efforts to improve safety and prevent any disruptions, particularly in sensitive areas, as security concerns remain high in certain districts of Karachi.
