Cold Wave Sweeps Sindh as Winter Sets In Across Pakistan

A mild cold wave is set to affect Sindh starting today, with temperatures expected to drop significantly during the night, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). As winter tightens its grip across the country, the PMD has also forecast rain and snowfall in several regions of Pakistan in the coming days.

In Sindh, the upper areas are anticipated to experience nighttime temperatures between 7°C and 9°C, while central Sindh will see temperatures ranging from 9°C to 11°C. In the southern parts of the province, temperatures are expected to drop to between 10°C and 12°C. Karachi, the provincial capital, may witness temperatures dipping to 11°C to 13°C tonight and on Sunday night. The cold conditions will be accompanied by dry and cool winds blowing from the northeast and northwest, further contributing to the winter chill.

Meanwhile, Balochistan is facing a severe cold wave, with temperatures plunging as low as -7°C in mountainous regions near the Afghan border. Shelabagh recorded a temperature of -6°C, and other areas like Ziarat, Toba Achakzai, Khanuzai, and Qila Abdullah saw temperatures of -5°C. Chaman, Pishin, Muslim Bagh, and Kan Mehtarzai recorded -3°C. The severe cold has resulted in frozen drains and streets, and a rise in seasonal illnesses, particularly among children, in the affected areas.

The PMD has warned that the cold wave will intensify further in the coming days, with moderate rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall expected in northern regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Punjab, from December 7 to 11. Authorities have been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures, especially in northern areas where the adverse weather may disrupt daily activities.
