The BBC 100 Women 2024 list highlights inspiring women globally who are driving change through resilience. Among the honorees are two remarkable Pakistani women: Mahrang Baloch, a Baloch rights activist, and Hadiqa Kiani, a renowned singer and humanitarian.
Mahrang Baloch gained recognition for her leadership in peaceful protests against enforced disappearances in Balochistan, leading a 1,600-kilometer march to Islamabad in 2023. Her activism stems from personal tragedy, as her father was taken and found dead under suspicious circumstances.
Hadiqa Kiani was acknowledged for her humanitarian efforts, especially her response to the 2022 floods in Pakistan. Through her initiative, Vaseela-e-Raah, she provided aid to flood victims in Balochistan and South Punjab, constructing homes and essential facilities.
The list also features other extraordinary women, such as Palestinian journalist Plestia Alaqad, who gained prominence for documenting the Gaza war, and Enas Al-Ghoul, who developed solar-powered desalination devices to help Gaza’s displaced residents. Other notable honorees include Afghan athlete Zakia Khudadadi, who made history at the Paris Paralympics, and Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, a fierce advocate for gender equality in sports.
These women, among others, are celebrated for their courage and contributions in the face of adversity, exemplifying resilience and hope worldwide.
