US pledges continued support to Pakistan in counter terrorism efforts

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Pakistan in its efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism. US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller reiterated this during a press briefing that addressed topics related to Pakistan, India, and global diplomacy.

In response to a question about the Biden administration’s possible plans to provide advanced weaponry to Pakistan before the presidential transition to President-elect Donald Trump, Miller stated, “I have nothing to announce at this time.” However, he highlighted the US’s ongoing partnership with Pakistan in counterterrorism efforts.

Commenting on recent violent protests in Pakistan, Miller emphasized the importance of peaceful demonstrations worldwide. “Protests, whether in Pakistan or elsewhere, should remain peaceful,” he said, urging the Pakistani government to handle demonstrators with respect.

When asked about Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s discussions with Indian officials regarding allegations against the Adani Group and the killing of a Sikh leader, Miller declined to comment on private diplomatic conversations. He noted that the US regularly engages with India on a wide range of issues, including the conspiracy surrounding the Sikh leader’s murder.
