Federal Minister for Law and Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar, reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to addressing gender-based violence, describing it as a critical issue.
Speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, Tarar emphasized that gender-based violence is a serious concern, and the government is actively working to combat this grave crime, stressing that women deserve to live with honor and dignity.
Tarar also highlighted the teachings of Islam on the protection of women and stressed the importance of building a balanced society where both men and women have equal rights. He called for collective societal involvement to ensure Pakistan’s prosperity, adding, “Our religion grants us many rights; if we follow Islamic practices, we won’t need to say much.”
The Minister underscored the importance of taking strong action against those who commit violence against women and children, and reminded the audience of Islam’s significant emphasis on the rights of mothers and sisters.
“As the federal minister for justice, it is my responsibility to improve the human rights situation in the country,” Tarar stated, also noting that the Ministry of Human Rights has played a key role in drafting new laws with support from both national and international organizations.
