Deputy PM Dar travels to Iran for ECO summit

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to travel to Iran today to attend the 28th Council of Ministers Meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

At the meeting, he will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to the ECO Charter, highlighting the importance of strengthening regional connectivity through improved rail and road networks, streamlined border processes, and relaxed visa policies.

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Dar will advocate for peace and regional stability. He is also set to sign the Charter for the ECO Clean Energy Center, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable energy initiatives.

On the sidelines, he will hold discussions with other ministers and dignitaries to explore avenues for mutual cooperation. Earlier this year, Pakistan and Iran engaged in talks to enhance trade, particularly in agricultural products such as meat and rice. Energy collaboration remains a key focus, with discussions including electricity trade, power transmission infrastructure, and the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Project.

Speaking on the pipeline, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s sovereign right to pursue decisions in its national interest, stressing the importance of resisting external interference in fulfilling international obligations.

The visit aims to bolster bilateral relations, enhance economic cooperation, and advance shared objectives within the ECO framework.
