ICC to decide Champions Trophy 2025 future today

The International Cricket Council (ICC) board is convening today (Friday) to determine the future of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, set to be held in Pakistan.

India has refused to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, proposing a hybrid model, which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly rejected. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi will represent Pakistan’s position at the meeting.

The ICC Board includes representatives from the 12 Full Member countries, three from Associate nations, and an independent director, alongside the ICC chairman and CEO.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed the ICC of its refusal to participate, prompting the PCB to formally reject the hybrid model on the government’s instructions. The PCB has also requested a written explanation from the BCCI for their stance.

The uncertainty surrounding the event has broadcasters worried about viewership, with many urging the ICC to release the schedule for Champions Trophy 2025. The schedule, initially set for release on November 12, was delayed due to BCCI’s refusal, and broadcasters are concerned about the impact on their $3 billion broadcasting rights deal, which is heavily reliant on high-profile matches, particularly between India and Pakistan.
