Punjab CM reviews flood management and urban drainage plans

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting to assess flood management strategies and urban drainage measures across the province.

CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the urgency of a comprehensive flood prevention plan to protect public safety and directed authorities to address flood-related challenges promptly. She approved the procurement of machinery to tackle urban flooding and stressed the importance of clearing flood routes under motorways, highways, and railway tracks to avoid water blockages during heavy rains.

The meeting also approved lowering the level of green belts along roads to enhance rainwater drainage and highlighted the need for timely cleaning and restoration of flood channels to minimize future flood risks.

To address urban flooding, the Chief Minister endorsed the construction of water storage tanks in flood-prone cities and emphasized improving sewage systems, which often cause stagnant water issues due to poor infrastructure.

“Enhancing and rehabilitating the sewage system is crucial to preventing flooding and easing public suffering during the rainy season,” she stated, reiterating her commitment to strict enforcement of flood prevention laws to safeguard citizens.
