Punjab Police successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on the Lakhani checkpoint in Dera Ghazi Khan, located at the Punjab-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) border, in a bold display of courage and swift action. A group of 25 to 30 armed militants launched an assault on the border post using heavy weaponry. The confrontation quickly escalated into a fierce gun battle that lasted for about 30 minutes. The Punjab Police responded promptly with machine guns and mortars, managing to push back the attackers, who eventually fled under the cover of darkness.
In the aftermath of the attack, security measures were strengthened across all checkpoints along the Punjab-KP border to prevent any future threats and ensure the safety of the region.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the bravery and professionalism of the Punjab Police for their decisive role in preventing a potentially disastrous attack. He extended special praise to Punjab Police Commander IG Usman Anwar and his team for their exemplary efforts, stating, “The Punjab Police have once again shown tremendous courage in the face of terrorism and thwarted the malicious plans of these attackers.”
