“Imran Agreed to Redirect the March, but Bushra Opposed”

PESHAWAR: Former first lady Bushra Bibi’s firm stance has reportedly disrupted last-minute efforts to peacefully redirect Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest march away from Islamabad’s D-Chowk. Sources close to the matter revealed that Bushra’s defiance derailed attempts to broker a compromise and avoid confrontation.

Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, spokesperson for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, confirmed that discussions were held late Monday night to persuade PTI leadership to halt the march at Sangjani, a location on the outskirts of Islamabad. According to Saif, PTI Chairman Imran Khan reluctantly agreed to this plan, provided it paved the way for his release and withdrawal of cases against him and other party leaders.

However, Bushra Bibi allegedly resisted this compromise, asserting herself in party decisions. Sources claim she insisted on directly communicating with Imran Khan via video call, which was hindered by technical issues. Despite plans for her to remain in Peshawar, Bushra Bibi unexpectedly joined the protest, leading to heightened tensions. Her actions reportedly energized workers, making it difficult for party leadership to maintain control.

Federal ministers have accused Bushra Bibi of “hijacking” PTI’s decision-making and instigating violence. In press briefings, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi alluded to a “secret leader” undermining negotiations, while Information Minister Atta Tarar blamed her for property damage and casualties during the protests.

Meanwhile, a tweet from Imran Khan’s account contradicted efforts for a peaceful resolution, calling on supporters to continue protesting until demands were met. With escalating tensions and unclear leadership, PTI is reportedly scrambling to devise a Plan B to manage the volatile situation.
