Lahore named world’s most polluted city with AQI of 298

Lahore has once again been identified as the world’s most polluted city, recording an alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) of 298 on Tuesday. New Delhi, India’s capital, ranked second on the global pollution list.

Karachi placed fifth with an AQI of 173. Within Pakistan, Lahore continues to lead as the most polluted city, followed by Peshawar in second and Karachi in third.

The pollution crisis in Punjab has reached critical levels, severely impacting public health. The city’s smog is primarily caused by a mix of low-grade diesel fumes, smoke from seasonal crop burning, and cooler winter temperatures.

Lahore has consistently ranked among the world’s most polluted cities, with air quality levels recently exceeding acceptable limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO) by more than 80 times, according to AFP. Local authorities are working to tackle the smog, but the situation remains critical, highlighting the urgent need for action to protect public health.
