India dominates Australia with 295-run victory in border-Gavaskar Trophy opener

India secured a commanding 295-run victory over Australia in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth on Monday.

Australia, chasing a massive target of 534, were bowled out for 238 on the fourth day. The Test, which commenced on November 22, saw India opt to bat first after winning the toss. Despite a shaky start, being dismissed for 150 in their first innings, they bounced back after Australia’s poor showing with the bat, managing just 104 in response.

India’s resurgence in the second innings was powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant 161, Virat Kohli’s century, and KL Rahul’s steady 77, culminating in a declaration at 487/6. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer with the ball, taking eight wickets across both innings.

The five-match series will continue with the second Test, a day-night fixture, starting in Adelaide on December 5.
