Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has requested a comprehensive report on the expeditious completion and transparent delivery of assistance to those impacted by the recent heavy rains nationwide. He has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to collaborate with the provinces in conducting a joint survey report and to enhance cooperation for better preparedness against future calamities.
Additionally, the Prime Minister has asked for a progress report on the technical enhancements of NDMA, as per his previous directives during his tenure. During a briefing by the NDMA on relief and rehabilitation efforts following the recent downpours, as well as weather forecasts and readiness measures, the Prime Minister was briefed on damages incurred, rescue operations, and aid distribution.
Furthermore, the NDMA, in collaboration with the provinces, particularly Balochistan, will soon conclude a collective verification survey to assess the number of fully and partially damaged houses. As per the Prime Minister’s instructions, a total of 766,000 kilograms of dry rations will be distributed in Gwadar by March 24, with approximately 388,000 kilograms already distributed by March 16. Additionally, 97,000 kilograms of rations have been distributed in Quetta and Dalbadin.
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of concerted efforts to promptly implement seven agreements valued at $10 billion signed between Pakistan and Kuwait in November of the previous year. Discussions with Ambassador Nassar Abdulrahman Jasser Almutairi of the State of Kuwait focused on bilateral relations and the agreements covering various sectors such as food security, technology, hydel power, mining and minerals, water supply, and mangrove rehabilitation. The Prime Minister highlighted the pivotal role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in attracting foreign investment to Pakistan.
