An accountability court in Rawalpindi has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in relation to the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement case.
The case was heard by Judge Nasir Javed Rana, who had summoned Bushra Bibi. Imran Khan was also presented in court for the same case.
It is important to note that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously granted bail to both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in this case. The IHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, had ordered the release of Imran Khan on a surety bond of Rs 1 million after concluding the arguments.
On November 24, Bushra Bibi released a video message urging PTI supporters to join the party’s planned “final or do-or-die” protest against the government. She asserted that her character had been unfairly attacked and labeled as part of a propaganda campaign following their visit to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, where they faced criticism.
In the NCA case, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating allegations against Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others for their involvement in the transfer of large tracts of land to the Al-Qadir University Trust, which allegedly resulted in a loss of £190 million to Pakistan’s national treasury.
The allegations state that the accused adjusted Rs 50 billion (equivalent to £190 million at the time) sent by the NCA to Pakistan’s government. As a result, NAB has filed a corruption reference implicating Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and seven others in the Al-Qadir University Trust case.
The trust for the Al-Qadir University project was officially registered by Imran Khan on December 26, 2019.
