Dhaka university lifts ban on Pakistani students

In a significant move to strengthen academic ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Dhaka University (DU) has lifted its ban on admitting Pakistani students. The decision was made during a syndicate meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmad Khan on November 13. Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Professor Sayma Haque Bidisha confirmed the decision to The News, marking a positive development in educational relations between the two countries.

The ban on Pakistani students had been in place for several years, but the reversal reflects a shift towards fostering greater cooperation in higher education. This move is expected to open doors for Pakistani students to pursue academic opportunities at one of Bangladesh’s most prestigious institutions.

The decision also comes at a time when both countries are looking to improve bilateral ties in various sectors, including education. By welcoming students from Pakistan, Dhaka University aims to contribute to the exchange of knowledge and culture, benefiting students from both nations. This reversal is seen as an important step in promoting cross-border academic collaboration, encouraging diversity, and enhancing the international profile of the university.
