PMBMC launches plastic-free rides for kids at model bazaar township

In a groundbreaking move to promote environmental sustainability, the Punjab Model Bazaars Management Company (PMBMC) has introduced plastic-free children’s play rides and blocks at Model Bazaar Township in Lahore. The initiative also features a park equipped with playground equipment crafted entirely from recycled plastic waste, setting a benchmark for eco-friendly public spaces.

This effort was carried out in partnership with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), acknowledging the significant role Model Bazaars play in public welfare and their potential as platforms for raising awareness due to their high customer footfall.

Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of the EPA, led the project and stressed the importance of creating plastic-free zones for children to nurture eco-friendly habits and educate families on sustainability. Highlighting Model Bazaars as key collaborators in this mission, he noted their pivotal role in public engagement.

Naveed Rafaqat Ahmad, CEO of PMBMC, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “This is a historic step and a source of pride for Model Bazaars to be chosen as central players in public awareness campaigns. Together with the EPA, we are demonstrating how public spaces can advance environmental sustainability and community well-being.”

The initiative, first launched at the Township Model Bazaar in Lahore, marks the beginning of a larger plan to establish plastic-free play zones in Model Bazaars across Punjab. With over 60 million annual visitors, these bazaars provide an ideal platform to encourage eco-conscious behavior among the public.
